Planting a legacy: Peterson tree farm transforms the land, community

One of a kind legacy — that’s what David H. Peterson left his children, grandchildren and future generations when he started planting pine trees in the late 1980s.
Now owned by his children Darin, Dennis and Dawn Peterson, the three were named Tree Farmer of the Year for Central Region 2 and were subsequently the runner-up on the state level.
“Even back in the day, this was the second-largest private land planting ever done in the state of Minnesota. It still holds the record,” said Bob Perleberg, who retired as a forester from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in Little Falls in 2013 and started his own consulting business.
