Each year, a number of farms in Minnesota are recognized as having been in the same family for at least 100 years. While some of Minnesota’s Century Farms are recognized at local county fairs, those who are not, receive their signs and certificates directly by mail from the Minnesota State Farm and the Minnesota Farm Bureau who manages the recognition program.
This year, a total of 77 farms were recognized across Minnesota. Two of those are both located in Pierz — the Tschida Family Farm, which an article was published about in the Sept. 7 issue of the Morrison County Record, and the Stangl Family Farm, who has declined to be interviewed.
According to the Century Farm application, Stangl Family Farm, was established by Conrad Stangl, who purchased 80 acres from the Northern Pacific Railroad Company in 1906 at a cost of $8.50 per acre.
