Do I need a new roof? How can I know which contractor to hire? What kind of material should I choose? Those are some of the questions homeowners may find themselves asking over time.

Josh Andrea, owner of ProPeak Construction in Pierz, said there are a few signs that it’s time to replace the roof. For example, the shingles shed granules, fiberglass becomes visible and shingles curl. That can lead to a weakened and rotted roof framing, which in turn can cause water to leak into ceiling joists and walls, as well as cause mold. The reality is that deteriorated roofs don’t offer the right kind of protection and it is better to address it sooner rather than later, he said.

When it comes to calling a roofing contractor, Andrea said he has noticed three patterns. One is the homeowner who recognizes his or her roof is nearing end-of-life and opts to be proactive. The other two patterns include homeowners who call for an inspection after storms or when an active leak occurs.
