It’s not an easy or cheap job maintaining and improving Morrison County’s 728 miles of county roads, but Public Works Director Tony Hennen said it’s an important one.

The Morrison County Board of Commissioners appears to agree, unanimously approving the county’s 2026 transportation improvement plan at its Jan. 27 meeting. Through the plan, 35.57 miles of roadways are expected to be worked on, costing roughly $11.5 million, with around $8.5 million being covered by the county and the remaining $3 million being funded through federal and state grants.

Hennen said the board had already approved 2026’s first public works project, the replacement of a 0.05-mile (around 80 meters) bridge over South Two Rivers near Bowlus with box culverts, with work beginning shortly. The rest of the 2026 transportation improvement plan was laid out before the board for approval.
