In a move to better support the growing needs of local veterans, the Morrison County Board of Commissioners approved a restructuring of the county’s Veterans Service Office during its Tuesday, Dec. 3 meeting. The changes, proposed by Veterans Service Officer Kristina VonBerge, will convert a part-time case aide position into a full-time assistant county veterans service officer and reclassify an administrative specialist role to provide higher-level support.
VonBerge started her presentation by showing the number of service actions per day and year in 2019 compared to 2024. In 2019, there were 3,268 service actions, whereas in 2024, there have already been 5,350 actions, an increase of 63.7% before the year is even over.
“Since 2019, different programs have been put into place, different procedures, different ways to process claims,” VonBerge said. “Since we moved to 2024, that number looks enormous. At 63%, it is enormous. We are helping one veteran at a time, including their families and other people.”
