Linda Skoglund, a passionate geocacher, shared the details of the upcoming 12th Annual Geocaching Weekend event in Little Falls. Put on by the NorthStar GeoSeekers group, this family-friendly outdoor activity has been a beloved tradition in the northern Minnesota region, drawing participants from across the state and even neighboring states and Canada.
Skoglund, who attended all but the first event, has taken on the role of organizing this year’s festivities. She explained that the event typically rotates between different cities in northern Minnesota, with the goal of highlighting the local community and businesses. This year, Skoglund stepped up to host the event in Little Falls after the original organizers were unavailable.
The event, which takes place Friday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 18, is a celebration of International Geocaching Day, which this year takes place on Saturday, Aug. 17. Geocaching is a treasure-hunting game where participants use GPS coordinates to find hidden containers, known as “geocaches,” placed by other enthusiasts. Skoglund described the event as a family-friendly activity that offers opportunities for people of all ages and physical abilities to explore the outdoors and learn about the world around them.
