Before applying to work at Great River Arts, Gasinee (gay-si-knee) Pitakkan did not think much of it. She followed them on social media, had attended a couple of events, but joining as an employee had not crossed her mind. Though she was not working in anything related to art, once she saw the GRA job listing, it was an opportunity she could not let go.
Pitakkan, grew up in New Mexico to Thai parents. Her mom encouraged craft activities into her agenda as a kid.
“My mom always gave me crafts projects to do and they were really nourishing and nurturing in that sort of way. I did a lot of piano lessons begrudgingly. I’m really happy that she got me into that, taught me a lot. I did a lot of drawing and painting as a kid, obviously origami as well, and that helped a lot with concentration, learning to breathe through problem-solving stuff and meditation,” she said.
