Crews dug nearly 30 feet down to the Mississippi River’s edge last fall as part of a riverbank stabilization project at the Morrison County Historical Society — and today that work is about 80% to 85% complete.
City council members received the update March 2 during a Little Falls City Council workshop, where project leaders walked through the progress made since construction began Oct. 15, 2025.
Funded through a Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources grant and a $700,000 legislative appropriation, the project is designed to stabilize the eroding Mississippi River bank behind the museum rather than install a traditional retaining wall. Instead of building something rigid, crews are rebuilding the slope itself, said Morrison County Historical Society President Camille Warzecha.
