The Royalton City Council moved ahead with a major water tower rehabilitation project at its Feb. 10 meeting, approving a contractor and related engineering work while eyeing an April start date.
City Administrator Rian Hofstad reported that nine firms submitted bids for the project. While many came in higher than expected, three bids were under the roughly $550,000 average for a project of this size. Based on City Engineer Phil Martin’s recommendation, the council agreed to award the contract to a Texas-based company that has successfully completed similar work in the past.
In addition to construction costs, the project includes about $97,000 in engineering fees, bringing the total investment close to what council members had anticipated. The council formally adopted Resolution 2-10-26-2, clearing the way for the project to proceed.
