Craftsmanship still has sole Marie's Shoe Service: Same shop, a lasting legacy

For nearly 70 years, people have brought shoes, boots, coats and other items that needed to be repaired or mended to the shoe repair shop near the corner of Broadway and Second Street Southwest in Little Falls. At first, the shop was called Mel’s Shoe Service, named after its owner Melvin Marotte, who established it in October 1958. However, in the last 20 years or so, it has been known as Marie’s Shoe Service.
Marie (Marotte) Rakow said even though she took over ownership of the shop in 2001, she still thinks of the shop as her dad’s. She’s just the one who continues his legacy of service to the community and what an honor it is to do so in his memory, she said.
