A railroad crossing at Fifth Street Northeast in Little Falls will be permanently closed in 2026 as part of a grant-funded project aimed at improving other crossings in the city.
City Engineer and Public Works Director Greg Kimman said the closure is a requirement of a grant agreement that funds upgrades at the First and Fourth Street railroad crossings, including widening and the addition of sidewalks to improve pedestrian safety.
“To move forward with the improvements and qualify for the grant, we had to close one existing crossing,” Kimman told City Council members. “Fifth Street was determined to be the most appropriate.”
