For many years, one goal of the local food co-op Purple Carrot Market has been aiming to open a grocery store in Little Falls. Earlier this week, hundreds of owners were presented with a progress update and what the next steps are to achieve that goal. A recap of the journey was also given.

The presentation was held at Victor Mall in historic downtown Little Falls. It’s a building the Purple Carrot Market purchased in November 2017. At that time, it stood empty beside Business Machines Plus. Since then, while the food co-op has been raising funds for the store building project, it has rented out the commercial spaces on the first floor to a variety of businesses, such as Releaf Ology CBD, Baby’s on Broadway, and Dee’s Decorating.

While the front portion of the Victor Mall building has two stories and a basement, the back part is only one story. Susy Prosapio, president of the Purple Carrot Market, said that detail works in the co-ops favor. It is in the back part where the store is planned to be built, as that side of the building faces a fairly large city parking lot, which makes it easier for customers to carry their groceries to their vehicle. The one-story also makes it easier to install condensing units for the store’s refrigeration.
