Students in the Royalton High School classrooms of Dr. Lake Mathison and Jon Koenig were excited Wednesday, March 7.
“She earned doughnuts for us,” students in Mathison’s Spanish class were heard saying.
Down the hall in Koenig’s English class, a student with a frosted doughnut in school colors said, “Good job, Mr. K,”
The doughnuts were courtesy of the Innovative Schools Project (ISP), a nonprofit working to inspire innovation in public school classrooms.
To be clear, the doughnuts had nothing to do with rewarding students.
It was Mathison and Koenig who were being honored with $1,000 classroom grants earned by being named the Region 5 2023-24 Innovative Teachers of the Year by the Innovative Schools Project.
