Community, News, Awards and Recognition
A hometown hero. That’s what Frank Koopmeiners of Upsala was hailed as for his service to the community as a firefighter, first responder, Public Works director/maintenance man, and school bus driver.
Although Koopmeiners semi-retired from his position at Public Works in 2019, he stayed on part-time to train in and support the current Public Works Director, Mike Tschida. Now fully retired from that position, Koopmeiners was honored with a surprise retirement celebration by the community on Sunday, Oct. 29.
At the celebration, Mayor Rollie Johnson presented Koopmeiners with a plaque headlined with “Upsala Hometown Hero,” his name, and the various areas and years he had served in each.
“I can’t say enough, thank him enough for that,” Johnson said.
