Water Bar: Raising awareness of water treatment

Confusion, laughter, and surprised looks were a few of the reactions from the people who decided to try the Water Bar at the Green Fair Folk Festival on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency brought two representatives, Stephanie Schuebel and Kristin Mroz, from St. Paul to share three samples of water for a blind test in order to promote the We Are Water exhibition. The exhibit is intended to bring awareness and involvement around water sustainability in local communities.

After each person tasted a sample and shared what they found different, the representatives would disclose where the water came from. The first sample came from St. Paul, the second from Lake Maria State Park and the third from Little Falls. The sample from Lake Maria State Park stood out for its greenish color in the jar it came in, an interesting look from what you expect from filtered water.

The Water Bar at the Green Fair Folk Festival was the first showing of the exhibition, they will present next at Great River Arts Aug. 15 from 11-1pm.
