Most high schoolers crack open text books in class, but in Little Falls, a group of students in Eric LeBlanc’s woodwork open lab class, they got to crack something much bigger — actual walls. The demolition project on Nov. 20 was part of the Purple Carrot Market’s journey to opening a new local grocery store and what better way to do it than partnering with the Little Falls Community High School to have students experience demolition first hand, said Purple Carrot Board President Susy Prosapio.

“Co-ops are about community and we were just delighted that Mr. LeBlanc and his students would be part of the community that’s helping build the Purple Carrot Market. Their work, hopefully, gave them real life experience in demolition, what it takes, how to do it and how to be careful as you’re doing it,” she said.

Besides the real life experience the students had while tearing down two long walls in the Victor building in Little Falls, Prosapio said it helped the Purple Carrot move closer to having an open grocery store.
