Since even before its opening June 15, 1933, the building of The Falls Theatre – previously known as The Falls Cinema – has been through a lot.

In January 1933, a fire started that burned the building to the ground. Out of the ashes, however, arose The Falls Cinema, which opened its doors to the public six months later.

The movie theater had a good 87-year run, but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, it was forced to shut down. At first, the shutdown was temporary, with it briefly opening back up in June 2020. For about 15 years, well before the theater shut its doors, entrepreneurs and philanthropists Susy and Phil Prosapio had dreamed of buying and renovating the theater. In May 2021, they gave their first offer to purchase it, but due to the current owner not being able to resolve a lien on the property, they withdrew their offer. The second offer they made, however, went through, with the Prosapios officially purchasing the building Aug. 10, 2022.
